Video Friday: Protoypes - Who's Gonna Sing?

We're big fans of Prototypes here at WOW. Although I have no idea what the heck they are signing about 99% percent of the time, I appreciate their beats and the way French sounds sassy and fun when sung aloud. When I discovered this video on the Minty Fresh YouTube page, I fell in love with them just a little bit more. This video features some hilarious clothes that seem to have come from my closet, circa 1987, including fluorescent pink sunglasses I swear I wore all during junior high. Additionally, there is a singing puppet. I won't ruin it anymore for you check it out below -

If you enjoyed that, I recommend their debut self-titled album.

Sonic Youth Video 3-fer

100%
If L7 was my first major feminist awakening ("Pretend We're Dead," 7/25/08), Kim Gordon was the next strong woman-in-rock type to smack me upside the head. This blonde, leggy badass was holding her own in a band with three noisy dudes, while simultaneously looking like a starlet and not giving a shit about anything. This video was my introduction to Sonic Youth. (Side note: supposedly, the second line in the second verse is "He's off to check his mind." I first heard it as "The zoftig chick is mine," and even though I'm probably wrong, enjoy singing it this way better.)

Bull in the Heather
Featuring the dance stylings of one Miss Kathleen Hanna! Check out the awesome riot grrl baby doll dress on Kim, too. (Hey, it was 1994!)

Little Trouble Girl (feat. Kim Deal)
Ah, the Kims. "Little Trouble Girls" is also the name of Rolling Stone's awesome book of women in rock (inspired by this song), which I highly recommend checking out.

Entertainment Law

I hate clowns. I don't like animals being used for profit. That said, I've had a long standing interest in circus arts/carnival culture. This Craigslist posting is just one example of what can be done with a law degree and a focus on entertainment law....and probably the only other rad thing to come out of Arkansas besides Beth Ditto!

Oooh, Barracuda!

Heart's "Barracuda" Played at Republican National Convention.

Ann and Nancy Wilson Bite Back.

An excerpt: "Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women."

I heart Heart. :)

Speaking of Politics...

Did we ever claim to be a fair and unbiased blog? No? Ok, just wanted to make sure we were all on the same page.

Check out the rest of Sarah Palin's vlogs (as brought to you by comedienne Sara Benincasa) here.
