Hurrah for the girls in the Women's Health and Issues Club at Arcadia High School in California! Bust magazine's blog tipped us off to this story - after being interviewed by Oprah earlier in the year about hip hop's attitudes towards women, the girls began discussing how mysogynistic lyrics made them feel, and decided to start a campaign to have a prom free of those songs. After collecting signatures on a petition and working with school administrators, they received a promise that twenty of the worst offending songs would not be played at prom. If this is what these girls can do as teenagers, imagine them as adults! Kudos to you, ladies of Arcadia High School's Women's Health and Issues Club!
