Patriotism

Today I am proud of my country.

Last night was one of the most remarkable nights in the history of the United States. It was the result of the work of so many before us: Martin Luther King. Angela Davis. Frederick Douglass. Rosa Parks. Malcolm X.
It should not have taken us this long to get here, but we finally did and not a moment too soon.

Last night the voices of so many Americans were finally heard. The voices of the poor and the middle class, the voices of the young and old, straight and queer, of people of every race and national origin. Voices saying that we are tired. We are ready for change. We are ready to be heard.

Today I am proud of my country.

God bless President Barack Hussein Obama and God bless America.

I realized today, that I never doubted that my generation would see that promised land. And THAT, my friend, I think is the greatest testament to America.
